Tuesday is officially the most productive day of the week, a new survey has found.
The study, by employment law firm Peninsula, found almost half of employees believe Tuesday is their most productive day, with Monday coming in second at just 17%.
The findings differed from those in 2003, when over a third of respondents said Monday was their most productive day, with just 25% of respondents saying they are more productive on Tuesday.
The survey also found the working week finishes at 2pm on a Friday, after which more than three quarters of respondents said ‘very little’ work is done in their office.
Deb Gibbons, head of employee relations at Peninsula, said Monday has become a day to catch up.
“Monday seems to be occupied with meetings, conference calls and catching up with email,” she said.
“It’s also the day with greater sickness and absenteeism levels, so as a consequence the real work gets started on a Tuesday.”
She advised workers to get the most out of their week by prioritising work.
“Try and respond to email when it comes in, rather than letting it build up. As common sense as it seems, delegate work to others, especially if you are up against a deadline.
“Remain focused, take short breaks, grab yourself a coffee or get some fresh air, it just helps you feel refreshed and focused.
“Concentrate on the task in hand make sure it is finished before starting something new,” she added.
