Misplaced files are wreaking havoc for employees across the country, a survey has found.
The report, by enterprise content management company Tower Software, found 32% of employees at middle manager level or below have experienced frustration at not being able to find important files.
87% of respondents had experienced negative outcomes as a result of file problems, with over two thirds left ‘extremely frustrated’, and 40% ‘extremely stressed’.
Almost a third had missed a deadline as a result, with a quarter saying it was bad for working relationships, and 18% claiming it made them look bad in front of managers or clients.
In 16% of cases, respondents said it had caused arguments in the office, with almost half admitting to seeking help from colleagues.
“In our fast-paced, modern business environment, time is a precious commodity that most busy employees simply can’t afford to waste,” said David Oates, Tower’s vice president.
“It’s no wonder that colleagues with poor information management practice are causing office tension.”
Tim King, the founder and director of recruitment specialist Matchking, added that while many employees like to be challenged, it’s also important for them to feel valued, rewarded, and able to do their work with optimum efficiency.
“Some of the basic obstacles described in this survey could easily undermine employee happiness,” he said.
