Michael Lawrence is a serial entrepreneur: not content with starting one online business, he’s already onto the second. However, he insists he couldn’t have done it without broadband.
Michael was using a standard 24/7 dial-up before switching to broadband but found it a tiresome and efficient process.
“Working on the internet was often frustrating using a dial-up connection,” he explains. “The transfer speeds were slow, especially with graphics, and uploading to websites took ages.
As a content BT customer he was happy to try a new product that might benefit his business, but he was dubious about the process of crossing over.
“I needn’t have been, though: it was dead easy,” reveals Michael. “The equipment and service arrived on time and was running in less than half an hour. The connection has been on permanently since last August, 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.
“I think there has only been a few hours of downtime due to BT in that period - I'm happy with that!”
And if there has been a problem, Michael has been impressed with the way its been handled.
“The customer service has been excellent. I have had to use the helpline on a couple of occasions and the helpdesk team is friendly and knowledgeable. One of the team even managed to identify a glitch within my own system while we were discussing the original problem and so I got two solved.”
“The 0800 status line is a worthwhile service - on the rare occasions I haven't been able to connect, the Service Status Update lets me know whether I have messed something up myself or whether BT has a problem in my area.
So was it worth swapping to broadband? Michael has no doubts.
“BT Broadband gives me the option to get what I want and get it fast. The benefits of having a permanent high speed connection are many but my clients usually comment on my fast response time which, in a Customer Service driven world is a great plus point. Let's face it, repeat business is what it's all about!”
But it’s not just Michael’s businesses that have benefited from broadband, it’s his family too.
“Broadband gives me the time to spend with my family; If I complete my work quicker, my time is my own. All in all, it’s a great service.”
