Businesses can now download a free carbon footprint calculator to enable them to be more aware of their environmental impact.
The calculator, from www.carbonfootprint.com, measures emissions. Users can choose between all major units of energy such as gas and electricity.
Managing director John Buckley said: “Tackling climate change is the biggest challenge mankind faces today. We believe it's a moral imperative that every person should know what their carbon footprint is and that this is the first step in the process to commit to reduce it to an absolutely minimal level.
“Businesses can benefit by adding the calculator tool to their web-sites - as tangible demonstration to their customers, staff and shareholders of their commitment to the environment”
A recent survey by electricity supplier Opus Energy found that over a third of employees are less likely to conserve energy at work.
The research confirmed that, although many people consciously take energy-saving measures such as switching off lights and not overfilling the kettle while at home, many do not bother to do these things in the workplace.
