IT Tips – make Windows run faster
Unwanted or unnecessary programs can slow even the fastest computer down. Setting up your PC to load and run faster can take only a few minutes to accomplish.
STEP ONE:
When Windows loads it will automatically start a host of applications it thinks you need. The problem is; each program takes time to load and uses precious memory. To free up memory go to Start>Run and type msconfig in the box, then press OK.
STEP TWO:
The System Configuration Utility will appear. Select the final box called Startup. Here you will see the list of programs that load when you log on. Many of them are vital to the running of your PC, so if you’re not sure what they are leave them ticked or run a quick search on the internet.
STEP THREE:
The most obvious applications to close are multimedia ones, such as Quicktime or even Microsoft Office. Don’t worry, this won’t mean you can’t start the application running in the normal way. It just means that it won’t be sat idly running in the background taking up vital system resources.
